La Bodega vineyard was founded in 2015 by Brett Mainey & Veronica Morales, they aimed to cultivate the grapes and create the wine highlighting the unique characteristics of Waiheke Island.
Their vineyard is set in wonderful native bush located in the exclusive and private Park Point Peninsula, at the western end of Waiheke Island. This beautiful native bush created some challenges with protecting their grapes from birds as there was an abundance of bird life living in the area.
Maintrac Group were contacted to recommend a humane solution to deter birds from their vineyard that would not disturb the native birds in the surrounding bush. Netting had been used in the past but this was needing replacing and Brett was looking for an environmentally friendly, sustainable and not labour intensive alternative.
The Birdzout Auto Laser 500 was recommended as the best option for La Bodega Vineyard. The laser beam covers a predefined area, protecting the grapes from pest birds without intruding on the home of native birds in the nearby bush.
As Brett put it "just to let you know that the laser is working absolutely brilliantly we’re very impressed I haven’t had any bird issues for the last four days since I installed it on Monday...thank you very much for your help we’re now feel like we’re out of jail after all these years of fighting birds"
